The Chicken Palace is an egg shaped cob chicken coop that began as a VBC 10 project. Taking inspiration a book we all love called A Pattern Language by Christopher Alexander, the Chicken Palace was sculpted to personify recognizable qualities of “Chickeness”. This helps to make the chickens feel like they are returning to the womb each night after they return home from work.
This spring we raised four chicks with our neighbor Annette and her family. They are a cold tolerant breed called Chantecler that were bred in Canada. This spring, after putting some finishing touches on the Chicken Palace, those lucky girls moved into their new home! Our ladies have now started laying! Our hens provide hours of laughter. Not to mention that they are wonderful little tillers, composters, and fertilizers. We love them (even though they are from Canada…)
