The Banksy of Permaculture – back by popular demand! This is the third consecuative year that the Planet Repair Institute and Permaculture Meetup will be hosting Oliver Kellhammer – one of Canada’s most experienced and dynamic permaculture designers. Oliver is well known for his work as a “botanical land-artist” who creates guerrilla-style food forests interventions to reclaim neglected urban spaces for the commons that shake people out of their passive, routinized life, by forcing an engagement with the urban ecology. Oliver has successfully protected these interventions the the guise of public art.
Last year, Oliver’s talk highlighted urban permaculture strategies for climate change resilience, his climate change forest experiment on Cortes Island, and his attempts at “botanical re-mixing”, open-source landscaping, and hacking the urban ecology. This year Kellhammer will be coming directly from Finland where he has been collaborating with other artists at the Finnish BioArt Society on the concept of “Deep Time”.
This event will be hosted at the Planet Repair Institute – a fifteen-year old urban permaculture site and the birth-place of City Repair and the Village Building Convergence. Join us at 6pm for a tour and history of Planet Repair Institute and Share-it Square, followed by Oliver’s talk at 7pm.
